Think On These Things

Somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning! Have you ever used that expression with someone? Truthfully, I was told that more than once when I was growing up. I just was not a morning person back then. Honestly I am more of a mid morning person if there could be such a thing!

I have learned a few things over the years about how to start my day out on better ground than the wrong side of the bed. And one of them comes straight out of the Bible in Philippians 4: 8-9. Listen to it from The Message: “Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious – the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into His most excellent harmonies.”

From the moment we are coherent in the morning we get to choose which direction our attitude is going to go. Yes, negative thoughts, disruptive behaviors, challenging opportunities all try to capture our attention but beginning our day with the goodness of God and the good things we have going on in us and around us sets our feet on a path for the day to line up with God’s instruction to us in Philippians 4.

Imagine that today is a song that God is writing…working everything together. When we choose to put His Word into practice in our lives we become a beautiful harmony part in God’s orchestration.
