Measuring Cups

When I cook or bake something I use a recipe. And I never guesstimate ingredients. I want to make sure I’m giving whatever I’m making a decent shot at tasting good when I’m done! So I have just about every tool for measuring that is known to man…or woman, in my case! Measuring cups & spoons, rulers & yardsticks…it all all comes out when I am working in the kitchen.

God gives measurements in the Old Testament when He wanted something built to His exact design. He was very specific in His formula for building Noah’s ark, the tabernacle and the ark of the covenant. But what I love most when I’m thinking about God’s design of people all throughout His Word, and today in you and I, God spares no expense in His creation of humankind. He uses a variety of ingredients in each of us….right down to the uniqueness of our DNA and fingerprints.

Ephesians 3:19 (MSG) describes God’s best ingredient that He offers to our lives. “I want you to know all about Christ’s love, although it is too wonderful to be measured. Then your lives will be filled with all that God is.” Paul tells us there is no way to measure the love of Christ in our lives…except that…when we really know Christ’s love in our lives…we will be filled with all that God is.

I’ll keep cooking and baking with my measuring tools but I am so grateful that God doesn’t measure out His gifts to us. When we walk with Him He continues to fill us…to overflowing…with His goodness and grace and oh so much more!
