The Gift of His Calling

What do you want to be when you grow up? That is such a good question to ask children. It’s fun to hear their answers and can even spark some good conversation about what careers they might aspire to grow into some day. But, the pressure can mount as kids become teenagers. And that question can lead to some angst.

I remember during my senior year of high school feeling this enormous pressure to make a decision that I would be locked into for the rest of my life. Because while a few of us may know the path we are going to take after high school the rest of us are struggling to figure it out. One day a professor gave me such good advice. He told me to start moving in the direction of what I enjoy. He said that most people change direction or at least do different things on the way to figuring it out. That day I felt as if I’d been set free. I loved singing and encouraging people and so I began to move in that direction.

We may not feel that what we are doing is important but each of us are called to do something….and the world needs who we were meant to be. There is a calling on each of our lives. 1 Corinthians 7:17 (TPT) says, “May all believers continue to live the wonderful lives God has called them to live, according to what he assigns for each person, for this is what I teach to believers everywhere.”

What God assigns for each person…that is our calling. Walking in the direction of what we enjoy…good advice to open the door to God’s revelation to us of what we were created to do.

God has given us the gift of His Calling.
