I always thought it was a cool thing to see limo drivers waiting and watching for their passengers while holding up a sign with their name on it. I’ve enjoyed watching a passenger’s eyes light up when they see their name and then look up to catch the driver’s eyes to signal the connection. I thought it would be even more cool if someday I found someone waiting and holding a sign up with my name on it! I don’t remember ever having that happen. Although I still think it would be fun!
Not every job requires us to hold up a sign but the truth is we are all holding a sign of something in our lives. It’s not likely to be a physical sign — but it is probably visible none the less. It could be a lie we’ve heard from the enemy that we have come to believe about ourselves. Names we were called when we were kids and it has stuck with us. It might be a trauma from which we’ve never received healing. What are the first things that come to mind when I ask what your sign might read? I hope that it was one of these, or words like them: Courageous. Loved. Treasured. Whole.
I love what the Bible says about this in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT). “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” The good news is that Jesus erased our old signs. No matter what your old sign said before… Jesus’ blood completely washed us clean and calls us new! That’s a sign worth holding up!
